First Light - or How to FUBAR Something Simple

I need to vent.

Today, the son was to receive his registration form for the high school of his choice. But, he didn't! That results in a panicked phone call at the end of the day!

My complaints:

The classroom teacher was away on vacation (which is like, okay, fine). The resource room teacher doesn't work on Fridays (she's half time). The substitute only had applications (according to Son) for only one high school. The administrative assistant didn't have a clue and claimed the forms are online (which they weren't). So, after calling the high school and discovering the forms weren't buried somewhere obscure, I called back to the elementary school, and requested to talk with the principal. He left, but the principal called me on my cell phone. The principal claimed he got applications for all the high schools, and gave them to the substitute teacher.

Okay. My beef - everyone at elementary school knows Son is autistic. They know he gets hung up on deadlines and due dates and when things are supposed to happen, and when they don't it's The End of The World As He Knows It! The classroom teacher knew they were to be handed out today. The resource room teacher knew they were to be handed out today. The principal knew this as well! So, how in the blazes of all that is white and slushy did Son not get his?!!! Someone should have taken responsibility. Granted, asking the substitute teacher makes the most sense, but why didn't someone (of the regular staff) not take responsibility to ensure that Son got his form? I do not relish the next week off where Son will be panicking about not having a form.

The point of "transition planning" (and this is a part of it) is to help make things easier on Son. Not adding to his already high stress level about this!

Boo. Now, I'm not looking forward to the rest of this journey. Too many areas for the ball to be dropped.

End of Vent....
